Our recommendations for you
Your vision for leveraging technology must encompass the product or service differentiation that can be unlocked.
Forming a vision should leverage market and technology trends, and deciding where you fit in your customer’s value chain ten years from now.
Just having a vision is not enough. A well-defined roadmap with clear milestones, measurable outcomes, and purpose must be created and adjusted as you make progress. The key concerns are prioritisation, resource allocation, and how success is tracked and measured.

Technology projects are notorious for running late, exceeding budget, or not ultimately going on to solve the problems they were commissioned for.
A breadth of analysis is required for clear understanding of perspectives on the problem from the customer (or user), the business objectives and technology feasibility. Comprehensive depth on every topic is not as important as good coverage, as the intention is to discover roadblocks early, not to exhaustively specify.
Interesting or novel ideas don’t imply real world adoption and consumption. This means we need to invite our customers into the development process. We need to more frequently test and adapt our ideas between the concept and the product reality to have any real confidence that there will be longer term traction.

The best plan and solution analysis won’t go far without the right people and culture that drives delivery, collaboration, and high performance.
The level of talent within the team executing on your project will have a dramatic impact on both the quality and the usefulness of the resulting system, regardless of how well specified it is. A large amount of work exists in between the lines on every project. There is unavoidable room for interpretation in every user story. These gaps are where individuals within a team will rely on their own critical thinking and contextual understanding to make the best decisions themselves.

Every project and greater technology team needs a consistent, reliable framework for how work flows between people and teams, and what the expectations are.
You need robust but simple processes with automation to eliminate human error, and a seamless flow from requirements conception , through analysis and build and into production.
You need a shared understanding of what “ready” and “done” mean in your teams. Alignment between product owners, business, operations and technology teams is paramount to building solutions that deliver real returns.

Technology choice, architecture, and best practice implementation has an impact on the stability of solutions, cost to build or change, and productivity of teams.
The technical architecture should be well thought-through and consistent for similar problems. Technology choices should be rooted in taking advantage of existing skills while solving the problem effectively.
The technology choices and technical architecture together should allow for ease of extension as the business’s needs change.

Data is often an untapped source of insights for decision-making on product and service offerings, business operations, and technology direction.
Data is usually dispersed in many different areas within the business and used for different purposes. It’s important to identify and map these data sources, prepare the data accordingly, and then centralise it for processing into real-time or interval-based insights that are leveraged for decision-making.
Data-driven decisions can reduce wasteful efforts, create efficiency in business processes, identify areas of opportunity and cost-saving, and provide real-time feedback on system adoption – which is the fuel for rapid iteration and innovation in your business.

As technology’s role in business grows, so does the need for the structures and governances to harness it.
More teams, more systems, more technology and more complexity means invariably reaching for outside assistance from vendors or partners to provide specialised skill, or scale.
Scale introduces risk as more people move in and and out of your organisation, and an over-reliance on technology partners can create an uncomfortable dependency.
Finding an effective balance means awareness and clever internal support structures which allow for easy access to scale for delivery efforts by leveraging scale partners, whilst still retaining critical IP. You also need the ability to identify, engage (and support) partners who recognise and proactively address this risk through long-term relationships and the right culture.
